Synopsis

Anton Chekhov's timeless masterpiece is reimagined for contemporary Australia. This fresh adaptation honours the original work while placing the story in a world we recognise. A world caught between old money and new ambition, between inherited nostalgia and the relentless march of change. As the once-grand Ranevskaya familiy returns home to their historic property, they find that the orchard – their pride and their identity – must be sold to pay the debts they can no longer ignore.

Balacing comedy and tragedy, The Cherry Orchard captures the absurdity and poignancy of a family clinging to the past while the future barrels towards them.
