YOUTH THEATRE IN FRANKSTON

Frankston Theatre Group's ACT II is a youth arm of the theatre group, intended to promote younger theatre enthusiasts/actors into getting involved in local theatre.

ACT II began in 2016, with Louis Nowra’s brilliant Australian classic COSI, directed by Daragh Wills, and with Connor McRae in the lead role of Lewis.

COSI proved to be a financial and critical success, and FTG decided to make the youth production a regular inclusion in their season. COSI was followed in 2017 by Reginald Rose's 12 ANGRY MEN, directed by Connor and produced by Daragh. This format allowed actors to transition to becoming directors, intended to broaden the experience and skillsets of these young actors.

12 ANGRY MEN was also a success, winning several awards at FTG's annual Peake Awards, including Best Director for Connor.

Thereafter, the youth members formed their own committee; the official birth of ACT II.

The 2018 production was Brandon Thomas' farcical comedy CHARLEY'S AUNT.  This saw Lachlan Casey-Roleff step up as director. This production was nominated as FTG’s entry into the Victorian Drama League Awards.  Almost the entire cast and crew were present at the Awards dinner to see their production win three awards outright (Best Costume and Two Adjudicators Awards) and be nominated for two more, including Best Production.

In 2019, Chris Hollins from CHARLEY’S AUNT directed the Gothic thriller GASLIGHT, with production and directorial assistance from Lachlan Casey-Roleff. The cast and crew put on a remarkable production, full of menace, emotion and drama, which drew great acclaim from its audiences.

Since 2020, Sarah Jeffs has been appointed as the ACT II Liaison, and has been working with FTG to combine adult actors with the youth group for selected plays. This was utilised for the 2020/21 production of Alan Bennett's THE HISTORY BOYS, which was FTG's flagship show during the Covid crisis.

We look forward to keeping you updated on the growth and future productions of our very own ACT II. If you would like to get involved, please contact us through our social media accounts, or through our Contact Page.
